Where Your Last Mile Is Your Lightest Mile

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: Is this stuff for real?

In a word, yes. After striving for years to cut pack weight, we felt we were doing pretty well. Until we figured that food was at least 50% of our pack weight, that is. Why not decrease that to zero? But you've gotta eat. One day it hit us: why not consume your stuff? You cut your toothbrush in half, you cook on that ridiculous alcohol stove (but it only weighs an ounce!), you sleep on a lousy 1/4" of foam, why not go the last mile? With Edible Gear, your last mile is your lightest mile.

We give new meaning to the phrase "Eat your way down the trail." And it's not only edible, it's functional. You'll stay totally warm dry and comfortable under our tarp, until you eat it. We're dedicated to just one thing: good nutrition at the lightest weight.

Question: Are your products waterproof?

Answer: Our packs and shelters are water resistant out of the box. However, they are designed to be saliva activated. Once the initial finish has been consumed (indicated by a loss of sheen), users should avoid direct exposure to rain and excessive humidity.

In general, and despite initial water resistance, use in extended rainy and excessively humid conditions will substantially shorten product life.

Question: How do your products interact with sweat/condensation?

Answer: People who are unwilling to regulate their sleeping temperature should not buy our sleeping bags or pads.

Excessively sweaty hikers are also advised to avoid the SnackPack.

Question: Do your products spoil?

Answer: Our products are typically shelf-stable for 18-24 months from the date of shipping.

Products are typically designed for a trail-life of 10-20 days.

Question: If I eat my pack, how do I get home?

Answer: It's necessary to take care in ordering the consumption of your trail gear. Hikers normally consume the pack last (although they might save a trekking pole for the hike out).

Question: Aren't animals attracted to equipment made of out food?

Answer: No. Animals aren't stupid. Animals don't consider Edible Gear food. You on the other hand, are clearly smart enough to understand that weight saving takes precedence over everything. As you're choking down your sleeping pad just think to yourself how easy it'll be to heft that pack tomorrow morning with two ounces less weight.

Question: What about bugs being attracted to the GummiSkin tarp?

Answer: We have not found this to be a problem. It might be a problem to some people but frankly, if you're bothered by a few bugs, maybe you shouldn't be in the outdoors (and definitely shouldn't be using a tarp). Think about it.
